Jerry Herman wrote this song for Ethel Merman to sing in HELLO, DOLLY!, when she was the originally intended star – and cut it from the show when she was unavailable. Ethel Merman finally introduced this charming, winsomely melodic song when she took over the role for the end of the show's long Broadway run. The main song is followed by a "band break," followed by the vocal return a half step higher, with a big finish.
