Schütz set the German Nunc dimittis, the canticle for liturgical Vespers, on the death of the Saxon Elector Johann Georg I in 1656 "in two different ways" and had these printed. But unfortunately the 1st soprano part is lost. The present edition offers a historical supplement by Heinrich von Herzogenberg, 1892. A modern supplement by Helmut Lauterwasser from volume 19 of the Stuttgart Schütz Edition is also available as a separate edition (20.433/50).
