This Lenten anthem is based on the hymn-tune "Southwell". It was written for the Choir of St Matthew’s Church, Albury, Australia. The choir sings in unison in verse 1 and breaks into SATB for verse 3. The solo in verse 2 may be sung by treble, soprano or tenor. The final verse with descant above unison voices builds to a powerful climax, yet retains its essentially Lenten mood.
