Loops, Mosaics, Images and Patterns for mallet percussion ensemble and electric piano relies heavily on repeated patterns and textures sustainable by these instruments. Loops is constructed from motifs established by each instrument. Each motif loops around, overlapping each other to create a musical texture. Mosaics and Images were begun after a reunion trip to Washington, DC. Mosaics recalls the jazz music of Miles Davis I would listen to it on hot summer evenings with the windows open. The "Sketches of Spain" album. Later I visited Barcelona the home of both Gaudi and Picasso. Images must have been a premonition. It was only after I saw the exquisite stained glass windows of the Gaudi Sagrada Familia that I was able to complete this movement. Patterns is just that. Changing patterns in my own fashion. A colleague suggested substituting a fourth marimba for second xylophone in this movement to provide a more mellow texture.
