Long and Short of It by Percy Hall Trombone Quartet - Sheet Music

By Percy Hall

Long and Short of It was named for the many levels of contrast dealt with by this work. There are three short movements for four long (low brass) instruments. By placing the various movements into the keys of Bb, C, F, and Ab, the young trombonist will have the opportunity to work the slide in all positions (long and short). Finally, Long and Short of It uses both legato and staccato playing (long and short) that is quite characteristic in trombone literature. Already used for many years as an instructional tool for younger trombonists, this work has been performed many times at solo and ensemble contests. Mr. Hall has dedicated this work to his friend and fellow teacher, Charles Bradley of Mansfield, Ohio.
