"Lone Wandering" is a setting for a cappella treble chorus (SA) of American poet William Cullen Bryant's classic and evocative poem, "To a Waterfowl" (1818). The soprano or the alto is sometimes in divisi, thus creating an overall texture of either two or three parts. The imagery of the poem is evoked in the vocal lines, expressing the wonder that the poet experienced when he observed the lone flight of a waterfowl, deriving from it a spiritual lesson.
