Composed by William Ortiz. This edition: pdf. 20th Century, 21st Century, Chamber, Classical, Contemporary. 25 pages. William Ortiz #1104834. Published by William Ortiz (A0.1531564).“Loaisai” for Bass Clarinet and Marimba with Tenor Drum, Snare Drum and Cymbal, was written originally in 1993 and revised in 2010 for the Duo Avanzando. The title of the piece is a take on the words “Lower East Side” with a Spanish accent.
Motivic sixteenth notes interplay with two against three rhythms creating a catch-me-if-you-can musical discourse. As if in a jazz setting, the instruments play off each other highlighting several urban melodic and rhythmic grooves, as well as timbres, in keeping with my “sonorous graffiti” aesthetics.
It may be possible to imagine yourself strolling through the streets of the Lower East Side on a cool summer evening.
