Composed by Emmanuel Martinez. This edition: pdf, streaming. 20th Century, Folk. 82 pages. Emmanuel Martinez #1267768. Published by Emmanuel Martinez (A0.1703907).

This work is based on the melody, rhythms, and effects of the Bumba meu Boi (Bumba meu Boi) from São Luís do Maranhão, Brazil, specifically the Boi de Axixá. It is a folkloric manifestation from Northeastern Brazil, where participants play large drums with their skins heated over a wood fire. The group members wear formal attire, and when they play the drums, they sing and dance to the melody presented in the fourth movement—Axixá—which is also the name of the boi.
In the audio and YouTube recording, I present only the fourth movement—Axixá—which is the original theme of the Boi. The melody and rhythms were taken from live performances by the boi during the São João festivities in June.
