Sir Malcolm Arnold (1921) maakte eerst carrière als trompet-tist bij diverse grote Londense symfonieorkesten alvorens zich geheel aan de compositie te wijden. Beroemd werd hij met de muziek die hij schreef voor de film 'The Bridge over the River Kwai', maar hij schreef heel wat orkestmuziek (waaronder diverse concerti), vocale werken, kamer- en ballet muziek en ook heel wat werken voor blaasorkest, o.m. drie suite voor brassband (Eveneens 'Little Suite' genaamd). De 'Little Suite Nr.1' opus 53 voor orkest (later gevolgd door Nr.2 Opus 78) bestaat uit een 'Prelude'(Maestoso), een 'Dance' (Allegretto) en een bekende 'March' (Allegro con brio). De mars staat op het concertrepertoire van alle Britse militaire kapellen.

Sir Malcolm Arnold (1921) put an end to his career as leading trumpeter with several famous London symphony orchestras to become a full-time composer. He became world famous with his soundtrack music for 'The Bridge over the River Kwai', but he composed a lot of orchestral, vocal, ballet and chamber music. He wrote several works for wind band and for brass band, such as three 'Little Suites for Brassband'. The 'Little Suite Number 1' Opus 53 for orchestra (followed by the Second Opus 78) consists of a 'Prelude' (Maestoso), a 'Dance' (Allegretto) and a well-known 'March' (Allegro con brio). The march is still on the concert repertoire of many British military bands.

Après une belle carrière comme trompettiste dans différents grands orchestres symphoniques londoniens, Sir Malcolm Arnold (1921) décide de se consacrer uniquement à la composition. Il devient célèbre avec la musique qu'il écrit pour le film 'Le Pont de la Rivière Kwai', mais il compose également de la musique orchestrale (dont plusieurs concertos), des oeuvres vocales, de la musique de ballet, de la musique de chambre et plusieurs oeuvres pour orchestres à vents, dont trois 'Petites Suites' pour brassband. La 'Petite Suite Numéro 1' opus 53 pour orchestre (suivie plus tard de la suite numéro 2 Opus 78) est composée d'un 'Prélude' (Maestoso', une 'Danse' (Allegretto) et une 'Marche' (Allegro con brio) très connue. En effet, cette marche de concert est au répertoire de nombreux orchestres militaires anglais.

Er wurde berühmt mit der Musik die er für den Film 'The Bridge over the River Kwai' komponierte, aber er schrieb auch zahlreiche Orchesterwerke (wie z.B. verschiedene Konzerte), Vokale Musik, Ballettmusik und Kammermusik. Auch für Blasorchester schrieb er manche Werke, wie zum Beispiel drei kleine Suiten (auch 'Little Suite' genannt) für Brassband.Die 'Kleine Suite Nr.1' Opus 53 für Orchester (es gibt auch noch die Kleine Suite Nr.2 Opus 78) enthält ein 'Präludium' (Maestoso), einen 'Tanz' (Allegretto) und einen bekannten 'Marsch' (Allegro con brio). Dieser Marsch ist noch immer im Repertoire der britischen Militärmusikkorps.
