A collection of 6 short studies for the student who is in the process of practicing shifting into 3rd position, written as duets to play with their teacher. I composed these for my own students and the inspiration for which kinds of shifts to practice in the studies comes from them (thanks ya'll!). Here follows a quick overview of the studies.
1. In Scale Motion: A simple study meant to familiarize the student with reading 3rd position fingerings on the low strings. 2. Shifting in Threes : This study focusses on shifting up and down in intervals of threes. 3. Flageolet : Mostly scale motion with a sharpened 4th finger in 3rd position and the use of the flageolet. 4. From the Open String : Using the open string as an opportunity to jump into 3rd position. 5. Big Jumps : Making the jump from low fingers in 1st position to higher fingers in 3rd position, and leaping to the flageolet from a low finger. 6. Virtuosity : Something for those who like a challenge and a reason to let their new skills be seen. This study features many shifts, jumps, and arpeggios all in one.
