Composed by Emily Gray. Contemporary. 23 pages. Emily Gray #1750167. Published by Emily Gray (A0.727688).Composed in 2008, this short concerto piece for alto clarinet and clarinet choir is unusual in that it features a solo alto clarinet. Written in one movement, this piece features contrasting moods, showing the wide range of emotions that the alto clarinet is capable of expressing. This is the full score. A set of parts is also available.

A cursory look at the score reveals some errors in the alto clarinet part with clef confusion and a part that's too high for a beginning student.

(Alto Clarinet is one of my main instruments so I must comment on this piece) I attended a clarinet choir concert where this piece was performed. I found the concerto really enjoyable to listen to and loved how the alto clarinet was brought to the fore and given the solo. It is set in a good key for the ear and features memorable themes. The end is in 7/8 and is enjoyably bouncy. The composer uses the different clarinet voices to great effect: even the contra-alto player (now with a proper part independent from the bass clarinet) will have a fun time playing this.
