This is my version of the Jimmy Van Heusen classic jazz standard 'Like Someone in Love' made famous by Bing Crosby and Dinah Shore and countless others and more recently with an amazing version by Bjork. Her version demonstates that good quality tunes can often work equally well in pop, jazz or other genres.
My version has one modulation from C major to Eb major. The harmonies are based on block chords and upper structures and other techniques I've picked up over the years with influences from George Shearing, Barry Harris and a number of modal pianists.
Normally I include chord symbols but the reharmonisations I have used are a little complex and very often the chords are changing on every quaver (8th note) so there really wasn't room to be precise.
I don't include dynamics, finger and pedal markings - preferring to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist and in order to prevent the arrangement from appearing over complicated. However although the chords are complex the dexterity required isn't that challenging and will be straightforward to learn for many.
This is my jazz arrangement and interpretation of an enduring standard that is a personal favourite of mine.
