Published by JM Atkinson (A0.1721132).This is a 'symphonic' arrangement of the hit song by David Bowie, originally released in 1971 on the album Hunky Dory and later released as a single in 1973. It only achieved number 3 in the charts, though remained in the charts for 14 weeks, but is revered as one of the best songs of the 1970s by many critics.
The song itself makes use of a beautiful melody and complex harmony usually unheard of in popular music. Bowie's song features Rick Wakeman on piano (who is said to have 'embellished' the part) and Mick Ronson's excellent string writing, which Bowie claimed to be "one of the best".
This arrangement makes use of various colours within the brass band, featuring various soloists and ensemble combinations. The arrangement is true to the structure of the original, however, there are many stylistic differences 'embellishing' the song much like Rick Wakeman did at the piano.
