Published by Lindsey James (A0.1886977).Ideal for the KS3 classroom, this keyboard arrangement of Piazzolla's much-loved tango with letter names can be played by one student using both hands, or by two students working in a pair and learning one hand each. The addition of rehearsal letters allows the piece to be separated into shorter 'projects' and potentially spread over several lessons. Some of the more complex harmonies have been simplified whilst still retaining the distinctive dissonance and tension of the original. ensuring a good level of challenge and interest. The rhythm of the bass ostinato has been notated using dotted rhythms rather than ties for easier reading and teaching, and the use of two-note chords better balances the difficulty between left hand and right hand. This piece can be used to demonstrate ostinati, staccato articulation, melodic sequences and the features of a Tango more generally. This piece could also form part of a larger topic on Latin American music or more broadly on music for dancing.
