Composed by Fabio Henrique Dentello. This edition: pdf, streaming. 20th Century, 21st Century, Christian, Classical, Religious. 92 pages. Fabio Dentello #1456366. Published by Fabio Dentello (A0.1897991).
In this collection, I sought to include some of the finest poetry within the Christian tradition. Care was taken to provide at least one hymn for each liturgical season, while also incorporating selections drawn from the metrical psalters. Several hymns presented here were later expanded into more substantial anthems. Among these is Hymn 9, “O LORD, How Are My Foes Increased?” In addition to metrical hymn tunes, I also composed several plainchants, which were later harmonized for inclusion in this collection—something I had never attempted before beginning Liber Cantici. Examples include Hymns 9, 26, 42, 44, 48, and 49.
The earliest hymn in this collection is Hymn 30, “Now Once Again,” written on 5 December 2020, followed shortly thereafter by Hymn 31, “Songs of Praise the Angels Sang.” Apart from these two hymns, Hymns 10 through 29 were written sequentially. The original Hymns 1 through 9, however, were eventually removed and replaced with newer compositions. Those earlier hymns had been the first written for this project, some even in Portuguese, but I ultimately judged the present versions more suitable for inclusion in this volume. Thereafter, Hymns 30 through 50 were composed more or less in order. The completion of this project required a considerable labour undertaken almost entirely alone: formatting, engraving, recording, editing, and preparing the accompanying material, all while maintaining long hours of work outside the project itself. I can therefore only give thanks to Almighty God, by whose providence and mercy this collection was brought into being. It is with great joy that I now present these fifty original hymn tunes.
