Les Martyrs
Again an excellent edtion with all the music written for this opera, and with whatever changes Donizetti wrote. Though much of the music will sound similar to his early Italian version, Poliuto, there were many changes, and even arias put into very different situations within the work. The essay at the beginning is very informative. Fortunately for us, we can experience the opera for all it has to offer without the issues of "he rewrote a work for Italy which hasn't even premiered yet." The musical action doesn't move a quickly forward as the Italian version, but is still a very excellent work. The edition, as I say, is excellent, complete, and worth every penny.
