Don't buy it.
This volume was very disappointing. The short pieces were toss offs, undeveloped, and not very interesting; the Sonata was an aggressively avant garde piece of great difficulty that did not replay the investment in effort. I have some respect for Bernstein's orchestral works, but I'm surprised and disappointed that his piano works provided so little charm and interest.

Theatricaly eccentric but colorful piano music.
Leonard Bernstein, as a composer was known for his eccentric and theatrical sound blending elements of Classical, Blues, Theaterical Music, and other genres creating a sound a bit beyond his time. This collection of some of his only known piano solos best illustrates his tonal/chord prefernces and his intriguing interest in more atonal harmonies. I rate this as an advanced collection since many of his pieces utlizes MANY accidentals which will call for some skilled piano playing at hand. A great workout in chromactism, mixed and/or irregular time signatures, and other means of technacality.
