This original military hymn presents an allegory comparing the leaves in a cemetery to those who have fought and are buried there. While the first two verses are strophic in composition, the third paints the picture in an a cappella setting. The fourth verse features a soloist accompanied by the choir which asks and answers the question "What cause is important for lives to be lost?" The text is written by Illinois native Karen James who won a high school poetry contest for her words.
