We all know the original Le Cygne with the beautiful melodic lines of the cello, swooping up and down, gliding over the stave like a swan on a lake, but in this version, a solo violin takes its place, backed by a string ensemble consisting of four violin parts, each written to evoke the gentle movement of the ripples left in the wake of the swan as it glides in graceful silence over the glassy waters. This solo is not for the faint-hearted, needing a musically mature grasp of the phrasing and the shaping of each line and each note. Gentle and sweet, and so very beautiful.
