François-Adrien Boieldieu (1775-1834) is considered as the one of themost important representatives of the French opéra-comique. His styleis characterised by natural, unembellished melody lines, straightforwardharmonies with refined orchestration. In 1800, Boieldieu achieved a major triumph with Le Calife de Bagdad. The opening is a true classic of this genre.
François-Adrien Boieldieu, een van de belangrijkste componisten van het genre 'opéra comique', maakte in zijn geboorteplaats Rouen al op achtienjarige leeftijd furore met zijn eerste opera. Spoedig daarna vertrok hij naar Parijs omzijn geluk te beproeven. Ook daar oogste hij sucses met een aantal werken - onder andere Le Calife de Bagdad in 1800. De ouverture van deze opera is nog altijd een geliefd repertoirestuk.
Die Oper Le Calife de Bagdad stammt aus dem Jahr 1880 aus der Feder des französischen Komponisten François-Adrien Boieldieu. Boieldieus Stil ist geprägt von natürlichen, ungekünstelten Melodielinien, unkomplizierten Harmonien und einer raffinierten Orchesterierung. In diesem Sinne bearbeitete Wil van der Beek die Ouvertüre von Le Calife de Bagdad, die noch immer ein beliebtes Repertoirestück ist.

L’instrumentation est légère mais soignée ; les dialogues sont spirituels. En 1800, Boieldieu remporta un véritable triomphe avec Le Calife de Bagdad. L’Ouverture est un classique du genre.
