ABBA recorded "Lay All Your Love on Me" for their 1980 album Super Trouper, though it was never intended as a single. The track's release was prompted by a nightclub remix that soared up the US dance chart, eventually pushing Polar Music to issue it as a limited 12-inch single in 1981 — at the time, the highest-selling 12-inch release in UK chart history. Andersson and Ulvaeus designed the chorus to evoke a congregation singing slightly out of tune, running the vocals through a vocoder to achieve the effect; the result is at once disco-charged and strangely devotional. The song has since become a staple of the Mamma Mia! stage and film franchise, introducing it to entirely new generations of audiences. This SATB arrangement embraces the track's relentless groove and its peculiar, hymn-like intensity — four moving parts wrapped in something that sounds like worship.
