Published by Christine Chase (A0.1819722).This arrangement of Jim’s lament grew out of Christine’s quartet by the same name. This lament inspired by a gravestone Jim discovered on Partridge Island, at the entrance to the Saint John harbour. A young Irish emmigrant having set sail in search of a hope filled life in the New World, had fled the famine in 1847 only to die shortly after his ship reached Saint John. This sad and hauntingly beautiful melody is presented first by solo strings, followed by the remaining strings recalling what Owen had left behind and commemorating his trust and hope for a better life.
