Duration: 9'21" (2004). A waltz (more or less). Echoes of Chopin, Schubert, Strauss and others. This is an unscored comprovisation (i.e., combination improvisation/composition) which manages to remain motivically unified throughout, in spite of the fact that its structure (and other musical elements) are extemporized. Many of the melodic and contrapuntal details are afterthoughts. I have not encountered any other composers who have conceived of anything quite like this. Comprovisations of this kind offer the best of both musical worlds-the spontaneity of improvisation coupled with the methodical rigor of composition. This is an eminently choreographable work. Good for any festive occasion.
