La Cenerentola

Now I have had a score of this opera for along time, but the critical edition was a real eye-opener. The final aria, the great one everyone enjoys hearing, actually has a number of different version written by Rossini for singers with various vocal ranges, some definitely for sopranos (which I would say any soprano singing the role of Cenerentola should consider, for the embellisments are far more difficult and more interesting than one usually finds used) and Rossini wrote a wealth of embellisments for Cenerentola when sung by a contralto or even different ones for a mezzo. It contained more music than my other score contained. I guess that is a really blessing with Critical Editions for we actually can see that what we are most familiar with may be nothing more than how things may have been performed commonly, or what became habit, but not necessarily even what the composer intended (though with Rossini, it is at times impossible to really know what he intended, as he oftentimes gives so many alternates for so many various singers, both men and women, one is left with the most distressng challenge of what one really thinks is better). As with most all critical editions, well bound, well printed, and worth every penny.

Excellent

This is an excellent publication. It's complete and it's printed well (meaning that none of the notes are faded - it's all dark, black ink). It also arrived quickly, which can't be said for all of SMP's orders, but this was very quick.
