Alternatim is a practice dating from the early Christian church that employs two or more performing groups or contrasting styles of composition in the presentation of a liturgical text. In these two Kyrie Eleison settings, plainchant is contrasted with polyphony. Richard Proulx has edited these liturgically useful settings that seamlessly combine a familiar chant dialogue for cantor and assembly with choral extensions from two Renaissance Masses, Missa L'Hora Passa .(Viadana) and Mass in F. (de Bournonville). These gems from the rich heritage of the Church can be incorporated into your community&sbquo, penitential rite.
