Nice music, crappy score
This is a transcription of Mozart's concerto #20 for flute, violin, cello, and piano. Our group was excited to discover this, as it was exactly our group and I'd played it as a concerto previously. So we were willing to plunk down $86+ for it, but it was a disappointment. The score itself is very badly laid out -- almost unreadable -- and has neither measure numbers nor section letters, so I had to manually figure out how the four parts lined up and letter them myself with no combined score showing all four instruments. No fingerings either. Hummel, being a pianist, took all the best lines from the orchestra and gave them to the piano, leaving little to interest the other instruments. He also embellished the piano part in places, which is a matter of taste. You can play his version or Mozart's original if you prefer. The piano is doing all the work of the orchestra and the piano solo; some of his piano reductions are easier than other versions, but loses something in places.
