"Kiss the Ladder" is a brooding alternative metal standout from Fleshwater's 2023 debut album We're Not Here to Be Loved, showcasing the band's signature blend of shoegaze atmosphere and heavy, distortion-drenched intensity drawn from the sonic legacy of Hum, Failure, and the Deftones. "Kiss the Ladder" is an ideal choice for intermediate to advanced bands looking to explore the heavier, more atmospheric side of 90s-influenced alternative metal. The guitar work balances crushing distortion with dynamic restraint, teaching players how to build tension through texture and tone rather than flashy technique. The rhythm section drives with a locked-in, muscular feel that demands both power and control, emphasizing the importance of pocket and momentum in heavy music. For singers, "Kiss the Ladder" offers a masterclass in delivering emotional intensity through clean, cutting vocals set against a dense, churning backdrop — a study in contrast and restraint. The song's raw, stormy energy and compact structure make it a visceral statement piece that showcases a band's ability to create atmosphere and hit hard at the same time.

A NOTE ABOUT DR. TOMS CHARTS
DR. TOMS CHARTS help musicians make more music together. Inspired by the Nashville Number System and the classic Rise Up Singing, these charts emphasize song form with lyrics overlaid on top of evenly spaced chords. These musical roadmaps let you focus on what you love: vocal delivery, groove, harmonies, feel, and more! You can even experiment with different styles and meters.

In the HYBRID chart, the first chord of each line aligns with the first word or syllable on the downbeat, highlighting pickups and delayed entries. Subsequent chords may not align exactly with every word, but once the singer nails the entry, everything locks in! This format might look unfamiliar at first, but evenly spaced chords improve groove and accuracy. The harmonic rhythm guides the melody! For singers, the LYRICS ONLY chart provides all the words with rehearsal cues (intros, verses, bridges, solos).

Keep on jammin!
