The anecdote tells that Count Hermann Carl von Keyserlingk asked Bach to compose a set of variations, which the young harpsichordist Johann Gottlieb Goldberg then had to play for him during sleepless nights.
The audio is an orchestrated realisation of the original piano duet version.
