KEYBOARD TOWN is a great method for beginners, using fun and familiar visual cues to introduce the elements of reading music. This was Glenn Gould's first piano method as a child! KEYBOARD TOWN helps students develop strong sight reading skills after the second lesson by the use of traffic signals in the music. That is, a red light in the music tells students to look down at their fingers to find their notes, and a green light tells them to keep their eyes on the music. The student is prompted to sing or say the names of the notes aloud when playing the songs or exercises, which helps build natural learning and phrasing.

Keyboard Town
I was raised on Keyboard Town. It's old school, but such a great resource for learning notes. I hope it doesn't go out of print!

A Blast from the Past
Since my three new (VERY BEGINNER!) students are a mother and her 7-and-5-year old sons, I needed something multi-generational which they could study together. I was delighted to find Keyboard Town and its companion books Technic Tales #1 and #2 still in print.Keyboard Town was my very first book when I started piano at the age of 4, back in 1947. The old-fashioned-looking artwork was very attractive to me then...and still is. And the musical basis for its teaching method got me off on a firm footing as a pianist.
