A solo Piano arrangement of the patriotic song written in 1914 by Lena Gilbert Ford & Ivor Novello. This was written at the start of World War 1 and inspired hope in the hearts of those fighting overseas that they might make it home, while inspiring those on the Home Front to think of them always and look with positivity towards their safe return. This version adheres mostly to the original arrangement in style, with respect to feel and tempo. However it does move towards one or two moments of jazz infused melodic intervals followed by intense arpegiatted left hand phrasing as we move to the eight bar build to the chorus. It also builds to a more rock piano style in the second half of the main chorus, giving the illusion of a tempo change (although it only builds in intensity) and is ultimately brought back down by the repeated ´Refrain´ first heard within the opening four bars of this piece. This is an excellent set piece for intermediate music Grades, as it requires effective interpretion of dynamics, significant technical proficiency in the left hand and a familiarity with several contrasting genres. This also works well for school concert performances, as the melody is enjoyable and quick to learn and can be played at any location with access to a Piano.
