SKU: A0.1877272
Composed by Lili'uokalani. Arranged by John Lehrack. This edition: pdf. 19th Century, Historic, Multicultural, World. 12 pages. GGLS Music #1436277. Published by GGLS Music (A0.1877272).
Liliuo'kanalani was inspired to write this song on a trip to Lahaina in 1876. Drawing on mythology, the story is about Hiku descending from the heights for a drink of water. The kaona (hidden meaning) suggests a love song. The chorus is often sung in tones suggesting course and humurous sexual behavior, particularly with the words "e he he he" which are meant to be a giggling sound and pahe'e ka momoni, meaning "how smoothly it it glides across the tongue," or in Lili'uokalani's translation; "I'd quaff thee and sip thee.".
