This well-loved African American spiritual piece has seen many different iterations, but this one is for four violin sections with added cello (walking bassline). This piece is meant to played in a swinging manner and not straight quavers (eight notes). The cello walking bass is an absolute stunner, and the rst of the parts hand each other the melody and harmony paarts flawlessly. This is defenitely a show-stopped piece, perfect for the end of a concert as it ends with a flourish. The arrangement was made with young string players in mind, having the first violin as melody, and each subsequent vioiln part be written at a slightly easier level, fourth violin being the easiest (for beginner violinists eager to play in ensembles).
