This piano solo should be played expressively, keeping in mind the title “Winter Waltz” and the cover page illustration. The first theme is introduced with a light waltz accompaniment, the second theme has a slightly thicker sound depicting cold wintry weather, followed by a short interlude with imagery of gently falling snow, becoming thicker with descending thirds. Then the first theme returns with a change in time signature from triple metre to 4/4 time. When the second theme returns, the original triple metre is restored, bringing the music to a quiet ending.
