This popular children's song is presented here as a spirited piano solo in Gmajor and Amajor. Also, according to a recent news story, this tune was used by one of our country's prisoners of war to relay back to the USA the names of his fellow prisoners after he was returned to the USA. Evidently, he would substitute each prisoner's name whenever the title name returned in a subsequent verse. Evidently the enemy thought that he crazy because whenever he was asked something he would sing this song. This was actually a ruse to get him back to the states so that he could reveal his valuable intelligence with the names of the prisoners and the enemies position. It also uses "standard" chords consisting of primary chords, the V/V and the ii chord. For this reason, the arranger thought that it would be helpful to include these chords transposed to another key (in this case, a step higher in Amajor) . If students wanted to further their understanding of how these standard chords work, it would be a helpful exercise for them to transpose to other keys after memorizing the tune in at least one key. Letter names of the chords are given above the treble clef.
