Serenade No. 1 in D, Op. 11 (Score) by Johannes Brahms Chamber Music - Sheet Music

By Johannes Brahms

Arranged for Nonet: fl, 2 cls in B flat & A, hn in F, bn, vn, va, vc ,db. Score ONLY.Full Score only. Set of parts available separately (see C789).Serenade No. 1 (Op. 11) is said to have been written for a chamber orchestra with a wind section of flute, two clarinets, horn and bassoon. The original version has apparently been lost, and only Brahms’ later version for full orchestra remains. Using Brahms’ full orchestral score, and keeping as much as possible of the instrumental colour, Chris Nex first arranged the Serenade for the modem grouping of wind quintet, string quartet and double bass. He was then asked for this version for a nonet consisting of four strings and a wind group with 2 clarinets, reflecting the original wind section of Brahms’ chamber orchestra. Both versions appear in the Clifton catalogue. It is possible to mix the two versions, using either set of string parts with either set of wind parts. The two versions:Version 1, scored for Flute, Oboe, Clarinet in Bb & A, Bassoon,Horn in F, 2 Violins, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.Full Score (C446), Set of Parts (C447)Nonet Version, scored for Flute, 2 Clarinets in Bb and A, Bassoon,Horn in F, Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass.Full Score (C790), Set of Parts (C789)Contents1.
