It displays the individual virtuosity of the different players of the orchestra, over a repetitive accompaniment.
The piece can be repeated without a proper end, usually until the conductor says "un so weiter" (and so on).
It is arranged here for symphonic wind dectet/bass.
Flute 2 doubles on piccolo.
If a piccolo player is available then they should play the separate piccolo part whilst the flautist takes the flute 2.
Clarinet 1 is written for an Eb clarinet (an alt Bb part is provided)
Optional timpani and percussion parts are provided ( any solos in cued).
