This piece began as a part of the larger work for orchestra "Jig and Reel". This version is written for young concert band. The melody is in the style of an Irish jig and is set in 6/8 in the key of F Major. The quick, lively tune is played first in the flute with reeds sustaining a drone, creating the effect of a fife with bagpipes. The melody is then passed to the clarinets and then to the brass. There is an alto sax feature which may be played as a solo or section soli.
