Emily S. Oakey - Philip Paul Bliss
arranged by Ken Litton (ASCAP) SATB & Keyboard
Converted at a revival meeting at age twelve, Philip Bliss became an itinerant music teacher, with his first song published in 1864. By 1868 Dwight L. Moody had advised him to become a singing evangelist and he later traveled with Major D. W. Whittle to lead the music at revival meetings. Bliss and his wife died at the age of thirty-eight in a train wreck and fire en route to one of those services.
This very personal text was credited to “E. A. Oakey” by Bliss himself.
The arrangement offers choirs, accompanists and their directors an easy to learn/easy to play setting in either SATB or 2-Part formats, each with some options.
East of the Altar/Artist of Note arrangements are designed for choirs of medium ability, but of large interest in leading worship, exhorting believers and making disciples. Each is offered with true choral, accompaniment and stylistic integrity in voicings and ranges that set the melodies and harmonies—and, most importantly the text—in a singable and playable version that can be achieved within rehearsal limitations.
