Jesus, Lover of My Soul is a darkly beautiful setting of what has been called English hymnist, Charles Wesley's finest hymn. With optional obbligato instrument included, additional instrumental parts and accompaniment track available, this anthem is appropriate for worship throughout the year. Though unsubstantiated, the story behind this hymn is intriguing. One day as Wesley was preaching in the fields of the parish of Killyleagh, County Down, Ireland, men who disagreed with his doctrine attacked him and Wesley was forced to flee. Finding a hiding place in a hedge near a small brook, with the cries of his pursuers all around him, Wesley was said to have composed this hymn.
