Of all Easter hymns, Lyra Davidica is most well known for the ornamented Alleluias at the end of each of the four phrases.
This joyful piece is composed in ABA form, with the melody modulating to the dominant in G major as is common in the Baroque era. The piece is fast-moving and vivacious, embodying the spirit of the Resurrection. It's probably one of the most well-known Easter hymns, and suitable for Easter Sunday or any celebration during the great 50 days.
Many of my pieces are a set of variations on the tune with each variation standing alone, but this one is through-composed. Therefore it flows smoothly from one section to the next, and is suitable as a prelude or postlude.
