Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring, with tremolo
Bach both distilled the polyphonic style of his time and leaped far ahead creatively. In this piece two starkly different rhythms alternate, emphasis in each type subtly affecting the melodic lines, as do the as usually seductive bass line and harmonizing. The alternation of sections is enchanting, and each style is harmonically developed before concluding. It has been finely transcribed for guitar, not difficult, and staying at the low end, first learned, where the instrument resonates most, and where its capacity for bass is fully available. The choruses ( sections) are appropriately transcribed as tremolo, one of the guitar's uniquely beautiful sounds, a style not so difficult to pick up. If you haven't yet learned the technique this wouldn't be a bad place to start. There is no fingering in the transcription, but doing your own is quick enough, and rewarding (and preferable to bizarre fingering that is a kind of guitar music nemesis). It is obvious where barring will help.
