J'ai composé mon premier quintette pour clarinette et cordes à la demande de Jean-Guy Boisvert. Après lecture de la partition, qui n'avait pas encore trouvé son titre, ce dernier m'a suggéré Je vous ai vue rêver. D'emblée, la proposition m'a plu : elle m'est apparue comme une prise en charge de l'œuvre, une première phase d'interprétation qui fait écho à l'esprit de la musique.

Au cours des dernières années, j'ai développé une conscience accrue des courbes d'énergie qui se profilent, entre autres, à travers l'agencement des couleurs harmoniques, le découpage et la densité des textures, l'intensité rythmique et le jeu si important des nuances. Ces courbes travaillent en arrière-plan de la forme en l'animant et en la structurant au-delà de ses paramètres habituels. Une attention à leur évolution permet un certain recul dans le processus de composition. Ainsi, la dynamique des phases de stabilité, d'accumulation et de libération de l'énergie a guidé la conception de chacun des cinq mouvements. Leur enchaînement repose sur le même principe, auquel se superposent des indications de caractère :

3. Paisible
4. Vigoureux et sans ralentir
5. Nostalgique

I wrote my first quintet for clarinet and string quartet at the request of Jean-Guy Boisvert. After sightreading the score, he suggested that the untitled piece be called Je vous ai vue rêver. I immediately liked the suggested title that seemed to support the work by offering a first layer of interpretation, which echoes the spirit of the music.

In recent years, I've developed a heightened awareness of the energy curves that are emerging, among other things, through the arrangement of harmonic colours, the dividing up and density of textures, the rhythmic intensity and the very important play of nuances. These curves work in the background of the form, animating and structuring it beyond its customary parameters. Attention to their evolution allows for a certain perspective in the composition process. Thus, the dynamics in the phases of energy stability, accumulation and liberation guided the conception of each of the five movements. How they are linked is based on the same principle, upon which character indications are superimposed.
