Fills a void!
Great for experiencing jazz style early in the learning process! Folk songs and oversimplified classic themes are abundant in this level, but jazz music is lacking. This book fills that gap for the elementary level student. It is a great introduction to jazz with mostly position-style playing and easy 2-hand parts. It would be great as a prep for Martha Meir's Jazz, Rags & Blues series, which can lead into the great solo jazz literature. The original pieces are very rewarding to play and follow well with instruction methods (working on particular skills applicable to the student who's at the overall ability level necessary to play the piece).Recommended corresponding Alfred series level 2/3 for a very attainable challenge.
