Nice Variety
A nice mix of mainly fast and dry songs against a few slower ballads with pedal. As well, a good juxtaposition of songs requiring swung 8th notes versus several others for which straight 8th notes are specified instead. Boyd tells which way to do the 8th notes at the beginning of each song. One of these songs is filled with dissonance in the left hand from start to finish, but if tastefully (umm..quietly) done, it could sound very nifty. Apart from that one tune, the other seven compositions in the book are sure to be ear-pleasing to the masses, with no unusual sounds that require second-guessing (i.e. Is is SUPPOSED to be THAT note/chord?). Overall, an excellent variety of well-composed short works!
