Finally Understanding Jazz Piano!
I've always wanted to learn jazz piano, and this book is perfect! The "unintimidating instruction" makes complex topics like comping feel achievable. Jeremy Siskind's pieces are fun to play, and the online audio with live musicians truly helps me understand how it should sound and feel. It's incredibly enjoyable and a great way to relax while developing new skills.

Solid Foundation, Not a Gig Book
As a seasoned player, I appreciate this book's focus on foundational jazz piano skills. It clearly teaches chord symbols and comping voicings, which are crucial. While it's an instructional primer rather than a collection of gig-ready charts, it's an excellent resource for teaching or sharpening basic ensemble accompaniment. The included audio tracks are a real plus for understanding ensemble feel.

A Good Resource
As a classically trained pianist I've had no background in Jazz, improvising, or the different styles within the jazz genre. It's very well laid out, it starts where it should, which is with the assumption that the student already is adept at reading music / rhythms. The explanations are just the right length and easy to follow, the music starts out showing basic rhythms through actual pieces which build on skills taught early in each piece and develop at a good clip. This book has a link to an online source that has sound recordings of each piece, so is an excellent support to the reading / playing. Being the first time I've worked in this genre with students I'm still learning how to teach jazz but this is a very good resource and I recommend it.
