Jacob's Ladder refers to Jacob's dream of a ladder reaching to heaven (Gen. 28:12). The piece for big band (grade 3) begins with a calm piano intro, followed by a three-note motif that is divided among various instruments like a call. The movement gradually intensifies and culminates in a section that depicts the ascent and descent of the ladder.
