This outstanding work was the winner of the Western International Band Clinic Gralia Award. It kicks-off with a strong, heroic Maestoso fanfare which leads to a rhythmic Allegro. The syncopated main theme is later transformed into a flowing 3/4 Moderato in the Lydian mode. (Grade 3).

First of all, I am not a director, but a middle school student flautist. I am first chair, even though I am the youngest member. My band played this piece at a forum festival and got a silver rating, even though a rival school got the gold on another piece. We should have got the gold though, if we weren't so nervous. I mean the judges were sitting right in the front row! Anyway, this piece was very fun because it had many changing parts and variations on the melody. It is especially a good student piece, because it teaches breath control and that if you don't follow dynamics and stuff you pretty much ruin the whole song! I also learned how to trill on the high F, which I had never done before. I recommend this to any intermediate band because it is a good student piece and it sounds very pretty. =]
