Ivor Novello (born David Ivor Davies) was a Welsh composer, singer and actor who became one of the most popular British entertainers of the early 20th century. He first became well known through the song Keep the Home Fires Burning which he composed during World War I. After the war, he began a film career, and also appeared on stage in the West End, in musical shows of his own devising, most notably The Dancing Years. Novello starred in two early Hitchcock films before heading to Hollywood and appeared in some successful films. He died in 1951, at a fairly young age of 58.

Ivor Novello--Song Album
Fell in love with this music after seeing Gosford Park! I play intermediate/advanced piano works and was delighted to see that every piece in the book was so beautifully written. If there is more of Novello's music out there, I would love to find it and add to my music library. I play from this book every day, without fail! I had never heard of Ivor Novello before and now, after hearing and playing his fabulous music, I am so glad that his genius was shared with us in the movie so that I could enjoy these treasures! If you love music from the WWI and WWII era, you must have this book!!

Endearing, Charming
As a rusty pianist: I found this sheet music reasonably challenging but not impossible by any means...and the piano is meant to support and complement the vocal line, rather than to just play the melody line...which is a rare and much appreciated feature. There is nothing I dislike more than a simplistic piece of sheet music that wouldn't be fit for accompanying a singer (even if it's just me singing along at home). Though I only know two of the songs thanks to the fantastic Gosford Park, and didn't find The Land of Might-Have Been in it, the choices are charming. A nice piece of British history is there in two different songs of his from WWI and WWII years, primarily Keep the Home Fires Burning.

novello
I had never heard of Ivor Novello until I saw the film Gosford Park. There were some wonderful songs in that movie so I checked the credits and that led me to this song book. It has a good selection and the piano arrangements are very good.

Ivor Novello, my favorite composer
When I became acquainted with the music of Ivor Novello, I knew I had found very special compositions--moving with such emotion and feeling. I cannot find enough of his music, and when someone borrowed my copy of this song album, I felt I lost a rare treasure.
