The four movements of this Italian Suite have been chosen from the vocal works of Italian composers of the 17th and 18th centuries to include ariettas from dramatic works and solo songs of varied types. The Allegro by Scarlatti is an arietta entitled Spesso vibra per suo gioco. The Allegretto by Caldara is an arietta entitled Sebben, crudele. The Andante by De Luca is a song, Non posso disperar, and the final movement by Durante is a song entitled Danza, Danza. The compositions by Scarlatti and Caldara are essentially lyric and expressive, requiring a sustained style and legato articulation. The compositions by De Luca and Durante require that particular attention be given to phrasing and articulation. Otherwise, phrases composed of small groups of slurred notes may become isolated melodic fragments instead of building a flowing melody.
- I. Allegro
- II. Allegretto
- III. Andante
- IV. Danza
