I'm starting a new piano solo jazz series of standards for the Intermediate pianist! It's a fun puzzle to create a fun-to-play arrangement that is challenging for the intermediate pianist. Jazz introduces such interesting chords and harmonies, it makes me wish that we had more than 10 fingers!! The joy of writing intermediate arrangements is in the editing: what notes can I leave out that will still make the arrangement and chords sound complete?
This song is so joyful--when I hear it, it sticks in my mind and I find myself humming bits of it throughout the day. There are fun challenges in this piece to discover: a bouncy left hand part that doesn't let the right hand have all the fun. There are little commentary "fills" scattered throughout the left hand. The right hand has the cheerful melody -- with a few little ornamental twists to keep things interesting.
The last statement of the theme plays around with the melody--dancing around, above and below the melody and gives you a little bit of right hand gymnastics to keep things playful and fun.
I hope you enjoy this arrangement as much as I enjoyed writing it!
